Welcome

So, here is my little corner of the internet to share with the world the things I make and things that inspire me. I make jewellery, mostly from sterling silver, and have recently discovered just how much I enjoy crochet and felt making. I really enjoy working with natural materials and get much of my inspiration from the world around me - mother nature really is hard to beat! 

I'll start with some of the jewellery I've made and show you the inspiration behind it.

  

This bangle is called Ikebana and was inspired by the beautiful kimono on display at the V&A in London. One of my favourite places in the world. If you would like to see the kimono in more detail you can find it here: http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O14575/kimono-unknown/

The kimono would have been worn by a woman of the Samurai class and I was fascinated to learn that she would have been as fearsome in battle as her male counterpart! The designs are reminiscent of the Japanese art of flower arranging - Ikebana - in which the spiritual aspect and closeness to nature are emphasised. 

First, I created the chrysanthemum design on the computer and then acid etched onto sterling silver and electroplated with pure gold. I love the fact that modern technology and traditional design concepts can be used together like this.

I'll add some more work in the days to come, but now I really am supposed to be working on an assignment for my English Language course!
